early musical development

He began studying the violin by the age of seven in his hometown (Brașov, Romania) where he graduated from Transilvania University and continued with his master studies at Kunstuniversität in Graz (Austria). During his early musical development Valentin Șerban progressed in his studies through lessons and masterclasses from violinists such as Valeriu Rogacev, Daniel Podlovschi, Master Ştefan Gheorghiu, Adam Han-Gorski, Master Ilarion Ionescu – Galaţi, Leonidas Kavakos, Ivry Gitlis, David Grimal, Mihaela Martin, Silvia Marcovici, Adam Han-Gorski, Arlette Bonamy, Alexandru Tomescu.

Later on Valentin Șerban acquired knowledge and skills on his own initiative rather than through formal training becoming more of a self-taught musician.

He won several national and international violin competitions such as ”Mihai Jora” National Competition (Romania, 2017), ”Ștefan Ruha” International Competition (Romania, 2011), ”Remember Enescu” International Competition (Romania, 2008). As a high school student he won the first prize for six years in a row of the National Violin Olympics (Romania). In 2015 he took the second prize of the ”Andrea Postacchini” International Competition (Italy).

The only Romanian musician who has ever played the violin in complete darkness for a public

Eyes Wide Shut Concert is a performance which defies the conventional listening and showcasing classical music.​ The concept put forth by Cristina Bobe consists of a 60 minute solo recital performed by the violinist Valentin Șerban in pitch black darkness and includes one of the most complex works from the violinistic repertoire (Bach, Kreisler, Enescu, Paganini, Ysaÿe).
